The Climate Talent Initiative
Who we are
CTI accelerates the transition to clean energy by providing regranting and advisory services to the philanthropy community, helping pilot and scale solutions to complex talent challenges. It was originally incubated by the Growald Climate Fund in 2022 to bolster organizations spearheading the energy transition movement in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and is now an independent entity.
Why we exist
With the global imperative to address climate change, there has been a surge in the number of organizations stepping up to meet the challenge. With a parallel increase in climate funding, there has been an exponential growth in the demand for skilled climate talent that can fuel organizations forward in their mission and efforts in the global fight to combat climate change.
There is a global mismatch between the demand for skilled climate talent and its supply. On the one hand, an 2023 report by EY revealed that 35% of global sustainability leaders cited challenges in hiring and upskilling talent as key barriers to successfully implementing climate action strategies. Similarly, the LinkedIn Green Skills Report 2023 highlights that only 1 in 8 workers have the necessary green skills. This is a clear sign that building climate talent across sectors, industries, titles, levels and cadres of the workforce will be an important part of the climate action story.
And yet on the other hand, all around the world, untold numbers of skilled professionals across sectors and career levels are hearing the call that addressing climate change is one of the foremost needs of this century and they are ready and willing to roll up their sleeves and commit their careers to this mission.
CTI is determined to overcome this supply-demand mismatch, by developing, supporting and de-risking pathways for skilled talent to enter the global climate change workforce.
